The provision of multidisciplinary care to all cancer patients is one of the key priority areas for cancer service improvement within Victoria. The Victorian Cancer Action Plan 2008-2011 (VCAP) has set a target of 80% newly diagnosed cancer patients having a documented multidisciplinary care plan by 2012. Within its Strategic Directions 2008 – 2010 document, NEMICS has identified multidisciplinary care as an area of focus, in particular enhancing and developing multidisciplinary team meetings (MDM). MDM are also a priority of cancer clinicians; some MDM have been established for as long as 20 years, others have commenced more recently with the opportunities offered by the Cancer Services Framework (2003).
